Custom Brake Caliper Welding and Restoration

At Larne Engineering, we pride ourselves on our ability to provide precision engineering solutions for parts that are no longer available. Recently, we had the opportunity to help a customer with a damaged brake caliper that could not be replaced, as the part was no longer in production. Our skilled team was able to restore the caliper to working condition through a specialized TIG welding and machining process.

Project Overview:

The customer brought in their brake caliper after one of the bolt holes had broken off. Since replacing the caliper was not an option, they needed a reliable repair solution. Our team at Larne Engineering completed the following tasks:

  • Surface Preparation: We began by thoroughly cleaning up the area where the bolt hole had broken off. This ensured a solid foundation for the new weld.

  • TIG Welding of New Material: Using precision TIG welding, we expertly welded a new piece of metal onto the damaged section of the caliper. This method allowed for better control and accuracy, ensuring the structural integrity of the part was fully restored.

  • Milling, Drilling, and Tapping: Once the new material was in place, we used a milling machine to accurately clock the caliper, then drilled and tapped the new bolt hole to match the original specifications. This allowed for a perfect fit for reassembly.

After the Restoration:

While we do not have a "before" picture, the restored caliper is fully functional, ready for use, and looks as good as new. This repair saved the customer from having to search for alternative solutions, proving that Larne Engineering can successfully restore parts, even when replacement options are unavailable.

Larne Engineering is proud to offer custom repair services, ensuring that our clients' critical components are back in action without the need for costly replacements.
